Very pretty (and unusual) hexagonal shaped antique English blue & white transferware ceramic wash jug with decorative handle and long spout.

Pottery factories in Staffordshire made transfer ware pottery like this during the 19th century. The design was printed from an engraved copper plate onto tissue paper and then it was transferred to the fired clay body before it was glazed. The distinctive blurred blue effect happened naturally when the colouring oxides bled slightly into the surrounding glaze during high-temperature kiln firing.
