The Story

The process of discovering textiles to grow our collection at Clothsmith is incredibly rewarding and one of the perks of the job. After a huge amount of sifting through piles of textiles for ‘just the right piece’ at a collectors fair, this piece jumped out with its heavenly soft tones and delicate silk stitch work. It is a Turkish piece that dates from the 19^th century, and although the Ottoman Empire was then experiencing decline, the artistic traditions and skills in textile art continued to thrive, as showcased here.
