The Story Behind the Takh Basket

The Takh basket has an unexpected and joyful origin. In the early days, a weaver named Coumba misinterpreted a drawing of a basket design. The sketch showed a basket with a 30 cm diameter, but Coumba wove her own interpretation — with an opening barely 8 cm wide. The result was a completely new and distinctive shape.

What began as a happy accident quickly became a bestseller. The unique form has since become iconic, with Coumba affectionately nicknamed as “Coumba Boob!”. It’s also likened to “Hershey’s Kisses”.

Giving Back Through Craft

Beyond its playful history, the Takh basket carries a deeper purpose. 100% of profits from every Takh sold are dedicated to funding THE IMADI education and literacy programmes in local weaving communities — supporting opportunities for the next generation.

Styling the Takh Basket

The distinctive shape of the Takh basket makes it a beautiful statement piece for shelves, consoles and coffee tables. We also love styling it with dried flowers or stems placed inside a small vase.

Yes - we love sending our community’s work out into the world! Please note that customs fees or import duties may apply depending on your country. These are the responsibility of the recipient. Each maker/brand ships a little differently, but most orders arrive within 3–5 working days in the UK. You’ll receive dispatch emails and some brands offer a tracking link once your parcel is on its way.

We want you to love every piece you choose, but if something’s not quite right, you can return it within 14 days of delivery. Items must be unused, in original condition, and with tags intact.
